JTI SPONSORED WALK-LW Chief Executive, Brigadier (Retd) James Stopford CBE
James took over as Chief Executive in April 2016 having left the Army in December 2015 after 36 years of service. He joined the Irish Guards in 1980 and served in the full range of military appointments before commanding 'the Micks' is 1999. Post command he completed further operational tours to Northern Ireland, Iraq and Pakistan. His final appointment was as Commander British Forces Afghanistan. He is a member of the Honourable Corps of Gentlemen at Arms, Chairman of the Gallipoli Association, an enthusiastic but untalented sailor and lover of all outdoor activities. Married to Michelle, a solicitor, they have 2 grown up children, Izzie a doctor and Milo, a practising vintner.

Rosie croppedHead of Events, Rosie Thompson
Rosie has been our Head of Events for 19 years and during that time has met many thousands of veterans - all of whom inspire her. Rosie’s passions are any outdoors activity - except sailing! She has a real love of animals, especially her beloved cocker spaniel puppy, Bridie. When not working - which is rare - she is busy raising money in a variety of ways for the NFA. She has completed 24 marathons, many half marathons and several long distance challenges. In 2017 she fulfilled a long-held ambition to successfully complete the Marathon Des Sables "The Toughest Footrace on Earth" and is now the proud owner of a much treasured Medal.

Head of Finance & Executive Officer, Al GonçalvesAl
Al brings a wealth of financial and accounting experience gained in South Africa, the USA and the UK, particularly in the charity sector. Al ran his own accounting practice in Cape Town, South Africa, specialising in small businesses and was a co-founder of the South African AIDS Foundation. Al is an active charity volunteer and currently serves as chair of the finance committee of a Camden Town charity. His other interests include the theatre, ballet and discovering art galleries. He also enjoys travelling and exploring the many parks and green spaces in and around London.

Anne finalAssistant to Head of Events & Holidays Manager, Anne McGinley
Anne joined the NFA in 1999. She previously worked for the United Nations in Geneva, New York and Damascus before returning to England as P.A. to the President of a large international record company.  Anne helps Rosie to organise the NFA’s busy programme of activities, liaising with veterans’ organisations and our beneficiaries as well as representing the charity at events. She has a daughter and two stepchildren and enjoys walking, concerts, visiting museums and exhibitions.

Anne finalGrants & Communications Manager, Phil Jenkins
Phil joined the NFA in 2011 and has worked in most areas of the charity. Currently, his main responsibility as Grants & Communications Manager is the writing and submission of grants - a vital role. After spending some 25 years in commercial posts in the travel industry - including co-founding a tour operating business - he became a freelance marketing consultant before joining the NFA. Likes include most styles of music and sport, especially his hometown football club Hereford FC.

Communications Officer, Milly Garnier
Milly joined the NFA as a volunteer in August 2016 just after graduating from Bristol University. She proved so invaluable that we soon offered her a full-time role creating publicity material, developing our social media activity and assisting our Events Team. The youngest of five sisters, Milly loves spending time with her family and is a keen squash player.

Fundraising Coordinator, Anthony Jones
Anthony, a former RAMC NCO, took over as Fundraising Coordinator in November 2017. Having joined the Royal Army Medical Corps in 2007 and completing two operational tours to Afghanistan – one with 16 Air Assault Brigade – Anthony left the Army in 2012. His responsibilities as Fundraising Coordinator include running and supporting the activities of all NFA fundraisers and volunteers, whilst working closely with the Communications and Events teams. His other interests include music, record collecting and travelling.

Finance & Office Administrator, Adam Dorken
Adam joined the NFA in November 2017 and not only assists the Head of Finance, but runs all of the office administration. He has a background in accounting and fundraising, having worked in a variety of different types of charities, such as refugee services and international development. When not working, Adam is a keen sportsman and enjoys walking holidays and playing badminton and football.
